£80m investment boost to increase number of student healthcare trainees

The number of training places for student healthcare professionals is set to increase by 16 per cent over the next year (2015-16) in Wales, the Welsh Government has announced today (February 11).

The government said it would spend £80m to increase the number of trainees to provide "the next generation" of NHS workers.

The funding will pay for nearly 2,500 extra places –  including for student nurses, paramedics, occupational therapists, dental hygienists and speech and language therapists.
