The health and social services minister Mark Drakeford will be introducing the Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Bill into the National Assembly on 23 February 2015.
The Bill is set to put “service quality and improvement at the heart of the regulatory regime in Wales”, according to the Welsh Government.
It states: “Regulation of social care in Wales has been effective, however we need to ensure our regulation regime reflects modern practice and the ever changing world of social care. We have learnt lessons from cases where there have been failures and we have changed the foundation of the sector in Wales with the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act. The Regulation and Inspection of Social Care (Wales) Bill is the next step in making social services in Wales sustainable and fit for the future.”
Here are some of the main things the Regulation and Inspection Bill sets out to do:
- The Bill aims to maintain and improve the quality of care and support in Wales and, where necessary, strengthen protection for citizens.
- To do this, the focus is shifted from minimum standards to outcomes and an understanding of the impact which services have on individuals.
- Much stronger accountability rules will be established and people will benefit from having access to more information about service providers.
Once it is introduced you will be able to monitor the progress of the Bill via the National Assembly for Wales website.
