New move to set out standards for pharmacists on ‘person-centred’ care – consultation launching soon

The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is set to launch a consultation on standards for pharmacists – and will be seeking feedback from social care professionals as part of the process.

The consultation will launch in April and the aim is to provide standards for pharmacists to set out how to deliver safe and effective ‘person-centred’ care for patients.

The GPhC’s chief executive, Duncan Rudkin, said: “The proposed standards will describe the attitudes and behaviours that pharmacy professionals must follow, and which patients and the public have a right to expect.

“Because of the vital role pharmacy plays in health care and on patient outcomes, it is crucial for us to hear from groups like yours, who share our interest in safe and effective care for patients and the public.”
