The Welsh Government has issued a new ‘follow-on’ framework for the use of Welsh in health, social services and social care settings.
The issue, discussed at this month’s Welsh Language in Health & Social Services Partnership Board meeting, is an update from the original More Than Just Words report issued in 2012.
The aim of the framework is to ensure that Welsh speakers receive services in their first language and to build on the original strategy, as well as to reflect changes in the political and legislative context.
As part of the framework, organisations are urged to make an ‘active offer’ to deliver services in Welsh, rather than expecting patients to ask for them. The framework also includes the establishment of a Partnership Board to oversee implementation.
