Care Forum Wales is looking for a Policy Advisor for South and West Wales

Salaries in the region £35-45K (pro rata if part time) 

We are looking to recruit somebody on a full-time basis for this position.  

In this role you will: 

  • Work with members to understand their needs, give advice and ensure they are aware of developments in the policy landscape that may affect them. 
  • Represent members and communicate their issues at a local, regional and national level.  Local members will primarily be those with operations in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire, Neath Port Talbot, Swansea, Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan. 
  • Conduct research and analysis to inform policy positions.  
  • Monitor national policy developments, identifying opportunities and risk. 
  • Develop policy asks and strategies to bring about their implementation. 
  • Work flexibly as part of a small team reporting to the Senior Policy Advisor. 
  • Possess a high level of initiative, with the ability to identify, prioritise, and progress tasks independently to support and advance Care Forum Wales’ strategic priorities.  
  • Encourage providers to join and maintain membership of Care Forum Wales. 
  • Update social media channels, including Facebook and LinkedIn. 
  • Support governance, logistics and stakeholder engagement for meetings and events. 

You will be primarily based at home but expected to travel across Wales to meet the demands of the role.  

Person specification 

Essential Knowledge / Experience 

  • Understanding of the way public sector bodies in Wales work and how they make decisions and an ability to influence those decisions. 
  • Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders from care provider members in a variety of organisational structures to policy makers. 
  • Demonstrable communication skills in writing and verbally and an understanding of different communications means (including social media) to reach different audiences 
  • Understanding of and ability to use spreadsheets.  
  • Self-starter able to prioritise own workload and manage competing demands on your time. 

Desirable Knowledge / Experience 

  • Experience responding to Government consultations / dealing with Senedd Committees. 
  • Experience working with or around government or local authorities. 
  • Experience of conducting research.  
  • Understanding of the care sector including care homes and domiciliary care. 
  • Understanding of appropriate governance for a membership organisation. 
  • Experience of delivering presentations. 
  • Experience of working with the media.
