Dementia sufferers in Wales ‘scammed’ out of £5million

Dementia sufferers in Wales are falling victim to con
artists who target them with cold calls, mail scams and mis-sold policies
according to charity, The Alzheimer’s Society.

Research, published in its report, Short Changed: Protecting
People With Dementia From Financial Abuse on December 14, shows that people
with dementia in Wales have victims of scams totalling more than £5million.

The report calls for people with the condition to be better
protected from financial abuse.

It reveals that 62%
of carers in Wales, England and Northern Ireland said the person they look
after had been approached by unscrupulous door-to-door salesmen and 70%
regularly received telephone cold calls.
