Wales Care Awards - Dignity in Care
Welsh Assembly Government to sponsor Dignity in Care Award
Welsh Assembly Government to take centre stage at Wales Care Awards

The Welsh Assembly Government has put its weight behind the Wales Care Awards by promoting a special award - Dignity in Care.

In line with the government’s agenda to promote dignity in care, Gwenda Thomas AM, Deputy Minister for Health and Social Services has taken the unique step to sponsor the new award at the prestigious ceremony to be held at City Hall, Cardiff on 31st October this year.

The Dignity in Care Award seeks to recognise and reward those individuals who have upheld the principle of promoting care with dignity and respect at all times.

The Assembly Government’s Dignity in Care programme announced in October last year by the Deputy Minister Gwenda Thomas seeks to have a care system where there is zero tolerance of abuse and disrespect for older people throughout the social care system.

Ministerial quote Gwenda Thomas said ” This is an important new programme and I am very pleased to be working with Care Forum Wales in taking it forward and to see that they are embracing it so strongly. Older People in Wales should never be subject to abuse and should always be treated with dignity and respect”

Mario Kreft, Chief Executive of Care Forum Wales which organises the Wales Care Awards said, “I am delighted that the Assembly Government is supporting this important award as a means of promoting the Minister’s Dignity in Care programme”.

Commenting on the success of the Wales Care Awards, Mario said “they are now in their sixth year and already have become widely recognised as being a highlight in the social care calendar. The awards focus on good individual practice in social care and are used through the media to promote best practice and raise awareness about the work of the social care workforce in Wales. The awards recognise outstanding contributions and in this Olympic year the organisers will be appropriately rewarding the recipients with gold, silver and bronze awards in each category.”

The awards are presented at a gala evening which attracts a sell out audience of over 450 representatives from the care sector in Wales including leading figures and representatives from the Assembly, Local Authorities, the NHS and public, voluntary and private sector organisations.
