December news from the Looked-After Children's Group

Specialist seminars welcomed by residential childcare workers

Childcare workers who attended pioneering Care Council workshops held in Conwy and Cardiff in November welcomed the specialist sessions and said they made them feel “valued” and “more professional”.

It’s hoped the seminars will become an established part of residential childcare workers’ professional development and will provide a blueprint for seminars for other social care workers in future.

Behaviour Management Guidance undergoing final review

A Cardiff University postgraduate student is reviewing guidance before publication. The LAC group is also consulting with the Care Council about the guidance and hopes to enter into discussions with the Welsh Government and CSSIW to ensure the guidance widely influences the sector.

Residential Childcare research topics submitted

Three dissertation topics have been submitted to Cardiff University MA students. It’s hoped if taken up one or more studies could produce information to help inform practice development.
