LAC Group news from Steve Elliott: autumn 2014

The LAC Network is sponsoring the Community Impact Award Award Princes’ Trust's Celebrate Success Awards, to be held in Cardiff on November 6.  Steve Elliott will also be involved in the judging.

Wrexham Youth Justice Scheme – A review is be planned for six months' time. Ani Sutton from Wrexham YJS is planning to attend the next Steering Group meeting in November to discuss progress. 

CASCADE centre collaboration - The LAC Network is in discussions with the CASCADE centre in Cardiff, formerly the Children’s Social Care Research Centre for Wales, about the possibility of working to arrange a national conference to be held in 2015 to share practice as well as considering the role of research in the care and support of looked-after children.

The Care Council for Wales seminars for Residential Child Care Practitioners - We will be attending a seminar on the 16th September organised by CCW to explore the scope for a Workforce Development Strategy for Residential Child Care staff. This is seen as a very welcome development by the sector.

The LAC Network will be collating and submitting evidence to the independent review into the role and functions of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales which closes on October 3, 2014. Anyone interested in contributing or having a copy of the ‘Call for evidence’ paper should please contact Steve Elliott.

The programme of Report Writing Skills Development continues in partnership with Coleg Llandrillo, Wrexham. The programme for Managers, Deputies and Seniors is due to start October 1 – if anyone requires more information please contact Steve Elliott.
