The Younger Adults' Special Interest Group is run by Michelle Martin with support from CFW policy adviser Melanie Minty.

Summer 2015 meeting with David Francis of CSSIW

Melanie Minty said: "Michelle Martin and I met with David Francis (Assistant Chief Inspector of CSSIW) on August 4 to discuss some issues raised by the Younger Adults Special Interest Group and look to working in a more joined up fashion to influence the future of inspections.

David told us that CSSIW is carrying out a thematic review of younger adult provision which, together with the Judgment Quality Framework being trialled in adult care at present, will enable CSSIW to give us a more detailed picture of provision across Wales.

He also clarified an issue around Regulation 38s (regulation 26 in domiciliary care) and agreed to update guidance as there was some confusion among providers and inspectors about when these should be completed for staff leaving service – a 38 is only needed where someone could otherwise be at risk or there is an allegation of a serious breach of the code of conduct.

We also discussed ways of reducing provider time spent copying and posting hard copies of documents in the modern age too. CSSIW will look at updating existing guidance, but it is working towards new online processes including online registration that should be in place by Spring 2016.

The next meeting of the YA group will be in November (TBC please contact Melanie Minty for info) and we will be inviting David to meet members of the group.
