Looked-After Children's Network: November 2013 news

Steve Elliott of Prospects Care organises the Looked-After Children's Network for Care Forum Wales

The first residential childcare workshop which took place in Llandudno Junction on November 14 was hailed a success by Steve Elliott, pictured.

The event, organised by the Care Council, was attended by around 40 residential childcare staff and practitioners who enjoyed a varied programme. Their feedback will be used to continue to develop the workforce agenda which is being led by the Care Council for Wales.

The Looked-After Children's Network (LAC) was was part of the expert advisory group which met on November 8 to discuss which models for transforming the outcomes for looked-after children would be submitted to the Big Lottery Fund. The BLF has indicated a wish to fund 'transformational interventions'. A decision about which models it will fund is expected in early December.

As part of our new links with Cardiff University Children’s Social Care Research Centre, the group met to discuss which proposed research topics will be put forward to the university - it’s hoped these will result in a short-term study by MA students as part of their dissertations.
