Care homes urged to complete their SASS

Care homes and children's homes providers are being urged to urgently complete their Self Assessment of Service Statement (SASS) before the deadline of November 28.

CSSIW have written to providers to let them know that they are required to complete and submit a focused SASS using CSSIW Online by November 28 – and providers will need to complete the SASS regardless of whether their service is currently operating.

Care Forum Wales has worked closely with CSSIW on this to help gather information about the current physical state of the care home sector and the information will help CSSIW make recommendations to Welsh Government on the requirements for registration under phase 2 of the RISCA rules and regulations.

Policy advisor Melanie Minty said: "We’ve worked closely with CSSIW on this to help us gather information about the current physical state of the care home sector. The information will help CSSIW make recommendations to Welsh Government on the requirements for registration.

"We have been saying for some time that carrying forward the existing National Minimum Standards could be problematic for older homes and does not necessarily address the issue of personal outcomes for care home residents – for instance when it comes to ensuite bathrooms that more dependent people can’t use.

"So the information will help us to provide a baseline so that we can work together with CSSIW to find a proportionate and reasonable approach."

More information can be found on the CSSIW website or email melanie@careforumwales.co.uk for more details.
