Care group develops nutrition for dementia qualification with Welsh university

South west Wales-based care group Gwalia is teaming up with the University of South Wales to develop a 'nutrition and healthy eating for dementia' qualification for its catering staff.

It's hoped the qualification will give staff a greater understanding of how diet can have a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of people with dementia.

As part of the course staff will be encouraged to develop imaginative menus which will then be tasted by care home residents and staff.

It's hoped that the meals created will also stimulate an interest in the food and culture of other countries, which will tie in with recreational activities in Gwalia's nursing homes.

Managers will also complete the course through an online learning module to increase their knowledge of healthy eating and nutrition for dementia.
