Care home invites Older People's Commissioner to afternoon tea

Hollybank Care Home in Higher Shotton, Flintshire, had a visit from the Older People's Commissioner for Wales Sarah Rochira earlier this month - as she visited to observe activities, meet staff and take afternoon tea.

The family-run residential care home with 24 residents and is owned and managed by Brian and Jacqui Jones who took over the business from Jacqui's parents in 1996.

A team from Ms Rochira's Residential Care Review team had visited the home as part of their survey of 100 care homes across Wales earlier this year but Ms Rochira's visit on October 10 was a low-key one. Ms Rochira was already on business in north Wales when the care home invited her to visit.

Jacqui Jones said: "When the two men from her [Ms Rochira's] team came they asked about menus, activities and interviewed residents but this visit was more casual. She met some of our residents, observed one of our regular Friday activities (flower arranging) and just generally seemed to enjoy sitting in the lounge listening to conversations. She said it was nice to hear the chitter chatter!"
