Health Minister opens Barry care home's new specialist dementia care facilities

Health Minister Mark Drakeford officially opened the specialist dementia care facilities at a Barry Island care home on September 4.

Following a substanital investement Island View Residential Home is now officially an EMI facility which can cater for around 40 people with specialist needs.

Professor Drakeford (pictured above) was accompanied by Vale AM Jane Hutt, Vale mayor, Cllr Fred Johnson and Vale and town councillors as well as families and friends of the home.

He said: "We are very lucky to live in part of the world where people are living longer and living healthier for longer too or more independent lives for longer and what that means is by the time people need the level of care that is provided by people in this home you have people whose needs are significant.
