Conference aims to boost status of 'care at home' workforce

The Care Council for Wales is hosting a conference aimed at providing recognition and support for the 'care at home' workforce.

The event, called Care At Home - Moving The Workforce Towards The Vision - is  being held in Cardiff's Marriot hotel on September 28. It follows the recent publication of its study into those who care for the elderly at home.

It will provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to focus on the actions needed to address the five key recommendations of the Care Council study which are to:

  • Recognise the value of the 'care at home' workforce
  • Enhance the role of this workforce
  • Address the workforce implications of developing integrated services
  • Support the workforce in delivering people-focused services
  • Explore the consequences for the workforce of new service options around self-directed support

The programme will include personal responses to the study from those who have been provided with care at home as well as carers, providers and commissioners. There will also be contributions from the Welsh Assembly Government and health service partners and an opportunity to debate the recommendations and to hear from the care at home research team and other guest speakers.

Whether you are a commissioner, service provider, workforce leader, service user and carer group, senior manager, elected member, planner in health and social care, or education provider - this is an event which will be of interest to you. The event is free of charge.

Places will be limited, so you must register for the event by contacting

Registration will start at 10.00am, with the conference opening at 10.30am and closing at 3.45pm. The event will be held in the Marriot Hotel in Cardiff, near Cardiff Central Station.
